The myth

This apprentice is a MYTHENOR creation, but his school existed. Onmyōdō, "the way of yin and yang", came from China and combined divination, astronomy, calendar-making and protective rites. In the seventh century the Japanese court created the Onmyōryō, an official department of masters and students charged with reading omens, choosing auspicious days, fixing forbidden directions and warding off calamity. Collections like the Konjaku Monogatari tell that its practitioners commanded helper spirits, the shikigami. Apprentices spent years studying before taking up duties at court.

Why it has this power

A Common level-3 Light Spellcaster with 900 ATK and 900 DEF: equal numbers, like the balance of yin and yang he is still learning. Light and Sun come from astronomy and protective rites; Fox recalls the legend of the great master Seimei's fox mother. He pairs with the Onmyōji's Mirror.

Did you know

The Onmyōryō operated for more than a thousand years and was only abolished in 1870, during the Meiji reforms.
