The myth
Nure-onna, the "wet woman", is a shore yōkai with a woman's head and a serpent's body, her long hair always soaked. She appears in Edo-period illustrated scrolls and in legends from western Japan and Kyushu. In the Iwami version, today's Shimane, she appears on the beach holding a baby and asks a fisherman to hold it for a moment. The child grows heavy as stone and sticks to his hands so he cannot flee, while the ushi-oni, a bull-headed monster, rises from the sea to attack. In other versions she strikes alone with her long tail.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon level-5 Water Serpent with 1900 ATK and 1600 DEF: one of the highest attacks among the archipelago's non-fusion serpents, because her trap usually works. Water and Moon come from the night beach; Leviathan from her serpent body. She pairs well with the Coastal Ushi-oni, her partner in ambush in the legend.
Did you know
In some versions the nure-onna can stretch her tongue or tail hundreds of meters to drag her victim into the water.
