The myth
Eurydice was the wife of the singer Orpheus. Soon after the wedding she died from a snakebite: Virgil says she was fleeing the shepherd Aristaeus, Ovid that she was walking with the naiads. In despair, Orpheus went down to the land of the dead and sang for Hades and Persephone, who gave her back on one condition: he must not look back until he had left the realm of shades. Near the exit Orpheus turned, and Eurydice vanished forever, saying a last farewell. Older allusions, such as Euripides', do not mention that tragic ending.
Why it has this power
A Common level-3 card with 900 ATK and 1100 DEF: a fragile shade who never wanted to fight. She is a Light Undead, because her story is one of love, not terror, with the Sun and Scarab constellations, the light she nearly reached and the rebirth that never came. Fused with Orpheus, she forms Orpheus and Eurydice, the Last Glance.
Did you know
In Euripides' Alcestis, the husband says that if he had Orpheus's voice he would go down to fetch his wife, with no hint of failure.
