The myth

Castalia was the naiad nymph of the spring of the same name at Delphi, at the foot of Mount Parnassus. According to the poet Panyassis, cited by Pausanias, she was a daughter of the river god Achelous. A later tradition says that, pursued by Apollo, she threw herself into the spring and became its waters. Pilgrims who came to consult the oracle purified themselves at the Castalian Spring, and the Pythia herself bathed there before prophesying. Roman poets began to say its waters gave inspiration, and it became linked with the Muses.

Why it has this power

A Common level-3 card with 800 ATK and 1000 DEF: fragile in combat, because her strength is to purify, not to harm. A Water Spirit, she bears the Moon and Fox constellations of the night spring and the mystery of Delphi. Song of the Muses grants her 700 points, echoing the old bond between the spring and poetry.

The Castalian Spring can still be seen at Delphi, with its ancient carved stone niches.
