The myth

Triton was a sea god, son of Poseidon and the Nereid Amphitrite, who lived with his parents in a golden palace at the bottom of the ocean (Hesiod, Theogony 930–933). He had a man's body from the waist up and a fish's tail. His symbol was the conch shell, which he blew like a trumpet: in the Metamorphoses, after the flood, Poseidon orders Triton to sound his conch so the waters will withdraw. In the Argonautica, Triton helps the Argonauts out of Lake Tritonis in Libya and shows them the way to the sea.

Why it has this power

A Common level-5 card with 1650 ATK and 1600 DEF: high numbers for a common, worthy of the sea king's son. A Water Beast-Warrior, half man and half fish, he bears the Moon and Fox constellations, the tides and the cunning with which he guided the Argonauts. Poseidon's Trident strengthens him.

Did you know

Over time the Greeks came to speak of many tritons, a whole race of fish-men who escorted the sea gods.
