The myth
Ladon was the serpent that guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides, at the far western edge of the world, near where Atlas holds up the sky. Hesiod calls it the terrible snake that guards the apples, offspring of Phorcys and Ceto; Apollodorus says it was immortal, had a hundred heads and spoke with many voices. The apples had been Earth's wedding gift to Hera. In his eleventh labor Heracles had to obtain them; in the Argonautica the Argonauts find Ladon freshly slain by the hero, with the Hesperides weeping over it.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon level-6 card with 2200 ATK and 2200 DEF: identical attack and defense, like a perfectly watchful guardian. A Light Dragon for the gleam of the golden apples, it bears the Sun and Crown constellations, the garden's sunset and Queen Hera, owner of the treasure.
Did you know
According to the mythographer Hyginus, Hera placed Ladon in the sky as the constellation Draco, which winds between the Bears.
