The myth

Achilles, son of the mortal Peleus and the Nereid Thetis, was the greatest Greek warrior of the Trojan War and the hero of Homer's Iliad. Trained by the centaur Chiron, he chose a short, glorious life over a long and forgotten one. His wrath against Agamemnon nearly cost the Greeks the war; the death of his friend Patroclus brought him back to battle to kill Hector. He died by an arrow from Paris, guided by Apollo. The tale of the vulnerable heel, from Thetis dipping him in the Styx, appears in later sources, above all Statius's Achilleid.

Why it has this power

A Legendary level-10 card with 3500 ATK and 2700 DEF: its attack is the second highest in the myth, and the lower defense recalls the heel that brought him down. A Fire Warrior for the fury that consumed him, he bears the Sun and Hammer constellations of glory and the forge. He is born from the ancient rhyme Thetis plus Peleus, exactly as in the myth.

Did you know

The Iliad never mentions the vulnerable heel; for Homer, Achilles simply dies as the mortal he was.
