The myth

For the Egyptians, the jackal was the animal that knew the way between the living and the dead. Anubis, the jackal-headed god, guided and protected the dead, and probably developed from the older god Wepwawet, the Opener of the Ways. Anubis was called First of the Westerners and He Who Is Upon His Sacred Mountain. The Collar of Jackal Fangs, with fangs of the guide of the dead to bite the living, is equipment MYTHENOR created from that sacred animal.

Why it has this power

Common equipment: gives +500 ATK to a Beast or Beast-Warrior monster. On the Wandering Dune Jackal, attack rises to 1500; on the Pack of the Desert Jackals, to 2750. Jackals, beasts by nature, are its most natural and loyal bearers in any duel.

According to World History Encyclopedia, Egyptians credited Anubis with inventing mummification.
