The myth
Egyptians used mirrors of polished metal, and many everyday objects, mirrors among them, bore the image of protective gods. World History Encyclopedia notes that the god Bes, protector of homes, pregnant women and children, appeared on unguent jars, amulets, beds, chairs, knives and mirrors. Guarding against evil was a function of objects themselves. The Lapis Lazuli Mirror, a MYTHENOR trap that returns the blow with interest, takes that idea of the protective object to its limit.
Why it has this power
A common reflection trap: when an opponent's monster attacks, the breath damage you would take in battle goes to the attacker's controller instead. The blue returns the blow with interest. The stronger the attacker, the harder the mirror punishes its owner.
Did you know
At birth houses, images of Bes stood outside while paintings of Bes and Taweret decorated the inside.
