The myth

In Egypt, the sphinx was a lion with a king's head, usually wearing the nemes headcloth, placed as a guard beside temples, tombs and funerary monuments; in the New Kingdom some had ram heads and represented Amun. The most famous, the Great Sphinx of Giza, is usually attributed to King Khafre, and in the New Kingdom it was called Horemakhet, Horus of the Horizon. The word sphinx is Greek. The Lapis Lazuli Sphinx is a MYTHENOR creation joining the Egyptian guardian with the Greek sphinx's riddle.

Why it has this power

An epic level 9 Beast of Light with 2800 ATK and 3000 DEF, the highest defense outside the legendaries: a guardian. It arises through the Riddle of the Sphinx, with Sacred Cat, Ram Warrior and Oracle. Sun beats Moon and Scarab beats Leviathan.

Did you know

According to World History Encyclopedia, Greek visitors may have mistaken the Great Sphinx's nemes headcloth for a woman's hair, linking it to their female sphinx.
