The myth

The horned viper is a real animal of the North African deserts, famous for burying itself in sand with only its eyes and small horns showing. The Greek historian Herodotus, who visited Egypt in the fifth century before the common era, says that near Thebes there were sacred snakes, small and harmless to people, with two horns on top of the head, and that they were buried in the temple of Zeus, that is, of Amun, when they died. Snakes could be either threat or protection in Egyptian belief.

Why it has this power

A common level 3 Serpent of Earth with 1000 ATK and only 700 DEF: the bite comes by surprise, but the body is fragile. Feather beats Sun and Leviathan beats Fox. It is a cheap attacker for opening the duel.

Herodotus says the horned snakes of Thebes were buried in the temple of the supreme god when they died.
