The myth

There is no specific myth behind this trap. It draws on the common experience of people in Mexico’s warm regions, home to many scorpion species, some with venom that causes intense pain, numbness and paralysis of the stung limb. In Nahua tradition the scorpion, colotl, is tied to night and penance, and it named places and people. The game uses that image for a trap that does not kill the attacker but leaves it too weak to strike.

Why it has this power

A Common trap that drops the attacking monster’s ATK to 0. One sting and the arm will not rise: the attack lands with no force, and your monster may even win the clash. It pairs with the Obsidian Scorpion and is a strong answer to very high-attack monsters like Mictlantecuhtli.

Colotlán, the name of a town in Jalisco, means “place of scorpions” in Nahuatl.
