The myth

The scorpion, colotl in Nahuatl, is a familiar creature in Mexico, home to many species, some with dangerous venom. In the codices it appears tied to night, penance and deities of the earthly realm. Obsidian, for its part, was the cutting stone par excellence: volcanic glass abundant in the mountains of Central Mexico, used for blades, points and mirrors, and associated with Tezcatlipoca and sacrifice. The obsidian-stinged scorpion is a combination invented by the game, joining two real dangers of the Mesoamerican world.

Why it has this power

A Level 5 Uncommon with 1600 ATK and 1200 DEF: strong venom and a thin shell. Darkness and Moon are the night it hunts in; Scarab, the constellation of small earth creatures. It pairs with the Scorpion's Sting trap, which drops the attacker’s ATK to zero — the same pain in card form.

The green obsidian of Pachuca, in Hidalgo, was among the most heavily mined and traded in Mesoamerica.
