The myth

The temazcal, from Nahuatl temazcalli, “house of steam,” is a steam bath used in Mesoamerica since ancient times for hygiene, healing and ritual. A wall heated by a furnace was splashed with water, and steam filled the small chamber. It mattered especially to midwives: pregnant women and new mothers bathed there. It appears in codices such as the Magliabechiano and Tudela, and archaeological remains exist at many ceremonial centers. The temazcal is still in use today in Indigenous communities and throughout Mexico.

Why it has this power

A Level 3 Common with 800 ATK and 1200 DEF: a healer needs endurance, not strength. Water is the steam; Moon and Leviathan, the night and cleansing waters. As a Spellcaster, she gains +700 from the Ritual Turquoise Mask and weathers the first blows well.

Did you know

Many ancient temazcales stood near ballcourts, perhaps for the players’ purification.
