The myth
The xiuhcoatl, fire or turquoise serpent, appears in codices such as the Borbonicus and in monumental sculpture, with a segmented body, an upturned snout and a tail shaped like a sun ray. It was Huitzilopochtli’s weapon and the insignia of the fire god Xiuhtecuhtli. At the pyramid of Tenayuca, near Mexico City, dozens of stone serpents, some identified as xiuhcoatl, surround the temple. The “lesser fire serpent” is not in the myths: it is the game imagining a hatchling of the sun’s weapon.
Why it has this power
A Level 5 Uncommon with 1800 ATK and 1400 DEF: much attack and little defense, like a new flame that has not learned to guard itself. Fire is its element; Sun and Leviathan repeat the constellations of Xiuhcóatl, the Legendary it echoes. An aggressive attacker for the middle of a duel.
Did you know
The pyramid of Tenayuca is ringed by over a hundred stone serpents, a true coatepantli, “serpent wall.”
