Breath of the Wildfire

The myth

Breath of the Wildfire is a MYTHENOR spell inspired by a real problem. Every year in the dry season, huge fires hit the Amazon, the Cerrado and the Pantanal, most of them set by people to clear land for pasture and crops. The smoke travels thousands of kilometers and fouls the air of whole cities far from the flames. On August 19, 2019, wildfire smoke combined with a cold front darkened the São Paulo sky in mid-afternoon, and the image went around the world. The card translates this into the game: the fire no one wanted to light reaches everyone.

Why it has this power

A common direct-damage spell: it takes 600 breath points from the opponent without needing to attack. It is like smoke that travels far from the fire and makes everyone cough. It helps finish a close duel or pressure an opponent who is defending too much.

Did you know

Studies show that smoke from Amazon fires can affect rainfall and people's health thousands of kilometers away.
