The myth

Boiúna comes from the Tupi mboîuna, "black snake". She is the Great Snake of the Amazon's rivers, also called mother of the river: an enormous serpent with glowing eyes who lives at the bottom of the waters. People say that when she moves, rivers change course and new channels open, and that she capsizes boats, imitates lit-up vessels to lure castaways, or takes the form of a woman. In legend she is the mother of the twins Honorato and Maria Caninana. In Belém, people say a great snake sleeps beneath the city, her head under the Cathedral and her tail under the Basilica of Nazaré.

Why it has this power

A level 9 epic with ATK 3000 and DEF 2800: the strongest epic card in the region, almost legendary. It is a water-element Serpent, with Moon and Leviathan, night and the mother of all river serpents. It only reaches the field through the Rite of the Great Flood, with the Hollow-Trunk Boa, the Deep-Forest Bushmaster and Norato, the River Serpent, her own son.

Did you know

In some versions, the Boiúna appears at night as a fully lit ship that suddenly vanishes on the river.
