The myth
Ginnungagap is the great void that existed at the beginning of time, between Niflheim to the north and Muspelheim to the south. The Völuspá says that in the beginning there was no sand, no sea, no cool waves, no earth and no heaven: only a yawning gap, and grass nowhere. Snorri says the northern part filled with ice and rime, the southern part grew hot, and in between the air was mild; when the rime met the heat, it melted and dripped, and from the drops Ymir was born. This card's rite is a MYTHENOR creation that repeats that creation.
Why it has this power
A Common ritual: it offers the Niflheim Rime Drake, Auðumbla and the Muspelheim Ember Wyrm to summon Ymir, the Primordial Giant, an Epic with DEF 3000. Ice, cow and fire: exactly the elements of Norse creation. In the void between ice and fire, something vast begins to drip, the card says.
Did you know
The meaning of Ginnungagap is debated: it may be yawning abyss or even a void charged with magical power.
