The myth

This moonlit shrine is a MYTHENOR creation, inspired by real Shinto principles. The shrine, jinja, is the place where a kami is revered, marked by torii, shimenawa ropes and stone lanterns. At the heart of the religion lies the contrast between purity and kegare, impurity, which arises from things like death and illness and must be removed through purification rites, misogi and harae. So traditionally funerals are not held at Shinto shrines, and people in mourning avoid visiting them for a time. The card turns that idea into play: spirits and gods grow stronger, the undead grow weaker.

Why it has this power

An Epic field: your Spirit and Deity monsters gain 500, and Undead monsters lose 400. The whole archipelago turns on this: Amaterasu, Raijin, Otohime, Yuki-onna and the spirits feel at home, while Gaki, Yūrei and even the Gashadokuro feel the weight of purity. A field that decides duels between spirit decks and undead decks.

Did you know

The vermilion of torii comes from pigments that also protected the wood, and the color is traditionally associated with warding off evil.
