The myth
The Labyrinth was the structure of confusing corridors that Daedalus built on Crete at King Minos's request to imprison the Minotaur. Ovid compares it to the river Maeander, which turns back on itself, and says it was so deceptive that Daedalus himself barely found the way out. Apollodorus describes it as a chamber whose tangled windings baffled the way out. Only Theseus, thanks to Ariadne's thread, went in and came back. Many scholars link the legend to the huge and complex palace of Knossos, excavated in the early twentieth century.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon trap that negates an opponent's attack. The monster goes in to attack and gets lost in the corridors: the blow never reaches its target. It has the same effect as Aegis of Athena but is rarer, a reminder that in the Labyrinth the attacker is still looking for the way out.

A Mycenaean tablet from Knossos records an offering to the Mistress of the Labyrinth, the oldest known mention of the word.
