The myth
Athena, goddess of wisdom, strategy and crafts, was born from the head of Zeus. Hesiod tells that Zeus swallowed the goddess Metis, who was pregnant, to prevent a child from overthrowing him; later Athena emerged from her father's head (Theogony 886–900, 924). The Homeric Hymn to Athena says she was born already armed, in golden armor, and Olympus shook. Protector of Athens, she beat Poseidon in the contest for the city by giving the olive tree. She guided heroes such as Odysseus, Perseus and Heracles. The Parthenon on the Acropolis was her temple.
Why it has this power
An Epic level-8 card with 2850 ATK and 2950 DEF: the highest defense in the Greek myth, because Athena is the war of strategy, not of fury. A Light Deity, she bears the Sun and Crown constellations. She is summoned by the Rite of Athena's Birth, with the Owl of Athena, the Young Spartan Hoplite and the Pythia of Delphi.
Did you know
The statue of Athena Parthenos made by Phidias for the Parthenon stood about twelve meters tall and was covered in gold and ivory.
