The myth
Calliope was the foremost of the nine Muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, Memory. Hesiod, who says he received the gift of song from the Muses on Mount Helicon, calls her the chief of them all, for she attends on revered kings (Theogony 79–80). Her name means beautiful voice, and she became the Muse of epic poetry, the one invoked at the start of great poems. According to Apollodorus, she was the mother of the singer Orpheus. In art she often appears with a writing tablet or a scroll.
Why it has this power
A Common level-5 card with 1500 ATK and 1600 DEF: balanced, with slightly higher defense, because whoever keeps memory protects more than she attacks. A Light Spirit, she bears the Sun and Fox constellations. Song of the Muses grants her 700 points, making her a centerpiece of a Spirit deck.
Did you know
The word museum comes from mouseion, a shrine of the Muses, like the famous Museum of Alexandria.
