The myth

Boreas was the god of the north wind and of winter, coming from icy Thrace. He carried off the Athenian princess Oreithyia and fathered the winged heroes Zetes and Calais, who sailed with the Argonauts. The Athenians credited him with the storm that wrecked part of the Persian fleet in 480 BCE. Describing the Chest of Cypselus at Olympia, Pausanias says that Boreas was shown there carrying Oreithyia, with serpents' tails instead of feet. The card's winged serpent is a MYTHENOR creation inspired by this serpent-bodied wind.

Why it has this power

A Common level-3 card with 1000 ATK and 800 DEF: swift and cold, but fragile. A Wind Serpent, it carries the Feather and Leviathan constellations, the wing and the serpentine body Pausanias saw on Boreas. It is one of the three materials of the Rite of the Corycian Cave, which summons Typhon, lord of storms.

Did you know

Herodotus says the Athenians built a shrine to Boreas by the Ilissus river in gratitude for the storm against the Persians.
