The myth
Shield of the Silent Jackal is a MYTHENOR trap inspired by Anubis's role as protector. The jackal god arose, according to World History Encyclopedia, as a defense against the jackals and wild dogs that dug up graves: Egyptians believed a powerful divine canine was the best protection against wild dogs. Anubis ensured the dead received their due rites and stood beside them in the afterlife. It does not bark, it only blocks: it guards without fuss, watchful as the god who is upon his sacred mountain.
Why it has this power
A common defensive trap: when an opponent's monster attacks, the attack is negated. It destroys and harms no one; it simply blocks in silence. It is the Necropolis's simplest protection, perfect for buying a whole turn against a very strong attacker.

Anubis's black symbolized both the body's decay and the fertile soil of the Nile, a sign of regeneration.
