The myth
There is no “sparking idol” in the myths. The card combines two real elements. The first is obsidian art: Mexica lapidaries carved figures, paper-thin ear spools, mirrors and even vessels from this volcanic glass with great precision. The second is lightning, which the Nahua attributed to the tlaloque breaking their rain jars. A statue that lightning “loves, though no one knows why” is the game playing with the black stone’s gleam during a storm.
Why it has this power
A Level 3 Common with 1000 ATK and 1000 DEF: a balanced statue. Thunder is the energy that strikes it; Wisp, the spark racing through the stone, and Hammer, the lapidary’s work. As a Thunder monster, it serves as material for the fusion The Tlaloque Break Their Jars.
Did you know
Some Mexica obsidian ear spools have walls barely more than a millimeter thick.
