The myth
For the Mexica, wind was what brought the rain. The Florentine Codex describes Ehécatl, god of wind and a face of Quetzalcóatl, as the one who “swept the road” for the tlaloque, the rain gods. It is not just poetry: anyone living in the Valley of Mexico knows the gusts that come before summer storms. That is why Ehécatl’s great circular temple in Tenochtitlan faced Tláloc’s shrine on the Templo Mayor: wind comes before water. This card’s breath is that gust turned into a spirit.
Why it has this power
A Level 5 Uncommon with 1600 ATK and 1300 DEF: fast and light, without much defense. Wind is its very body; Feather recalls Quetzalcóatl and Fox the gust’s unpredictability. As a Spirit, it opens the way to fusions like Huehuecóyotl, just as wind opens the way for rain.
Did you know
Remains of Ehécatl’s temple were found in an excavation on República de Guatemala street, behind Mexico City’s Cathedral.
